Pots pans and more: Quickly remove grease from cookware with baking soda and lemon juice. Soak pots, pans, cookie sheets, and baking dishes in a sink filled with hot water, 1/2 cup of baking soda, and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. Let them sit 10–15 minutes, wipe, and then rinse clean.
Extend the life of nonstick pans by hand-washing them. Washing nonstick pans in the dishwasher can break down the nonstick coating over time. Hand-washing pans in natural dish soap and warm water will keep the coating intact for much longer. Avoid using harsh scrubbers that can also damage nonstick surfaces.
Make copper cookware shine like new with ketchup. Rub a generous dab of ketchup all over the pan. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then wash and rinse clean. Ketchup’s thick consistency allows it to stick to surfaces, and its acid and salt content removes tarnish and stains quickly and easily for efficient cleaning. 100 Remove limescale from a teakettle with vinegar. Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to a kettle, and fill with water. Let it sit overnight, then boil the kettle. Empty the contents and watch flakes of limescale flow down the drain. Fill the kettle with water, boil again, and empty. The kettle is now ready for use.
Remove stains from enamel pans with rhubarb. Put a handful of rhubarb leaves in the pan with some water, and simmer for 10 minutes. Let it sit for around an hour, and then wash as usual. The oxalic acid naturally found in rhubarb leaves will remove even burned-on foods much faster than soaking.
Use lemon to make cookware shine. Rub half a lemon or a sprinkle of lemon juice on metal cookware, rinse, and air-dry.
Polish silver with cornstarch. Make a thick paste with cornstarch and water. Rub silver with paste, and rinse thoroughly. Don’t have cornstarch in the house? You can also use plain white toothpaste!
