Protect costume jewelry with clear nail polish. Paint your costume jewelry with a clear coat of nail polish to keep pieces from tarnishing and protect your skin from allergic reactions. You can also use nail polish to repair loose stones. or fix faux pearl jewelry and buttons.
OTHER BEDROOM ITEMS
Use cornstarch to remove dirt and grease from stuffed animals. Put stuffed animals in a garbage bag, sprinkle liberally with cornstarch, and shake vigorously. Vacuum or shake outdoors to remove the cornstarch.
Remove furniture dents from your carpet with ice cubes. Do you like to move your bedroom furniture but hate the carpet dents they leave behind? Place ice cubes in the dents, and let them melt. Vacuum the wet areas to fluff up the carpet fibers.
Clean mold and mildew from your humidifier with hydrogen peroxide. Deep clean your humidifier at least monthly to ensure you and your home stay healthy and clean. Wash your humidifier with soap and water. Rinse well, then spray liberally with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect and remove mold and mildew. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse again. Disinfect inside the unit by adding 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide per 1 gallon of water, then run the machine normally.
Keep your drawers and closets smelling fresh with candles. Store natural candles in closed spaces like drawers and closets to keep your clothes and linens smelling sweet.
Silence squeaky bureau drawers with an old candle. Rub beeswax or an old candle where the wood is hitting to make the squeaky noise. Push the drawer in and out a few times to distribute the wax. Reapply when the drawer starts squeaking again.
Use a humidifier to moisten the air, protect your home, and help you sleep. The ideal humidity in your home is between 30% and 40%, but air tends to dry out in cooler months to as low as 15%! This dry air can cause a number of issues, including home and furniture damage; dry skin, nose, throat, and lips; and health problems that can disrupt your sleep. To moisten the air and help keep you healthy all winter long, use a cool-mist humidifier in your bedroom and in other rooms in your house, such as the living room and den.
Purify the air with essential oils. Essential oils have many therapeutic benefits for you and your home, including removing dust and bacteria from the air, opening airways, improving mood, and aiding sleep quality. Using a nebulizing essential oil diffuser in your bedroom is an excellent way to clean the air and enjoy the health benefits of essential oils while you sleep. The best scents for improving air and sleep quality include lavender, chamomile, cedarwood, bergamot, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang. You can also enjoy the relaxing benefits of lavender by placing some fresh or dried flowers on your nightstand. Be careful using essential oils around children and dogs, since they may be sensitive to certain oils. Never use essential oils around cats and birds.
Use an air purifier to remove even more dust and allergens. If anyone in your household suffers from allergies, talk to your doctor about whether you should keep an air purifier in the bedroom to remove dust, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens that can trigger allergies, sinus, and asthma problems that may also keep you up at night. You can use a Himalayan salt lamp as a natural air purifier, or if you prefer an electronic device, try a HEPA air purifier or an ionizing air purifier
